About Rohit Sharma
Rohit Gurunath Sharma, an international cricketer who is regarded as one of the greatest opening batsmen of all time and among the top batsmen of his generation, is renowned for his timing, grace, six-hitting prowess, and leadership qualities. He bats right-handed for the India national cricket team in international competition, the Mumbai Indians in the IPL, and Mumbai in local competition. The Mumbai Indians, who are also captained by Rohit, have won five championships under his watch, more than any other team. Sharma played for India in the 2013 ICC Champions Trophy and was a part of the squad that won the 2007 T20 World Cup.
Sharma, who hit 264 against Sri Lanka at Eden Gardens in Kolkata on November 13, 2014, holds the record for the highest individual score by a batsman in a one-day international game. He is the only player in this era of international cricket to have achieved three double century. Sharma was selected the ODI Player of the Year by the International Cricket Council in January 2020. Sharma became the only batsman to score five hundreds in a single Cricket World Cup edition during the 2019 tournament.
Sharma made history on October 5, 2019, in a Test match against South Africa by becoming the first player to record two hundred in a single game while playing as the opening batsman.

Sharma was chosen as one of the five Wisden Cricketers of the Year in the 2022 edition of Wisden Cricketers’ Almanack for his accomplishments during India’s tour of England in 2021.
On April 30, 1987, Sharma was born in Bansod, Nagpur, Maharashtra. His mother, Purnima Sharma, is an Andhra Pradesh native. His father, Gurunath Sharma, was a warehouse keeper for a transportation company. Due to his father’s meagre salary, Sharma was raised by his grandparents and uncles in Borivali.

Indian Premier League
Sharma joined the Indian Premier League (IPL) in 2008 after agreeing to a US$750,000 yearly contract with the Hyderabad-based Deccan Chargers team. He was purchased by the Mumbai Indians for US$2 million at the 2011 auction. In the 2012 IPL, he hit 109 (not out) against the Kolkata Knight Riders for his lone century. Mumbai has triumphed under his direction in the IPL in 2013, 2015, 2017, 2019, and 2020. They also triumphed in the old Champions League Twenty20 in 2013.
Sharma has been the captain of the Mumbai Indians since 2013 and has led them to five IPL championships, making him one of the league’s most successful players.
