Dipendra Singh Airee’s Six-Sixes Historic Achievement

Dipendra Singh Airee's six-sixes

In a spectacular display of power hitting, Dipendra Singh Airee, a formidable finisher for Nepal, carved his name into cricket history by becoming only the third player to hit six-sixes in a single over during an international T20 match. This extraordinary achievement occurred during the last over of Nepal’s ACC Men’s Premier Cup match against Qatar at Al Amerat on Saturday. With Nepal at 174 for 7 and Airee on 28 from 15 balls at the start of the over, he unleashed his fury on medium pacer Kamran Khan, propelling the ball over the boundary six times in a row to finish the innings at 64 not out off just 21 balls. His explosive batting propelled Nepal to a formidable total of 210 for 7.

Airee’s International Impact

This remarkable feat placed Airee alongside elite hitters like Yuvraj Singh and Kieron Pollard, who have also achieved the same in T20 internationals. His performance was not just about his batting prowess; Airee also contributed with the ball, taking two crucial wickets, and helping to secure a 32-run victory for Nepal over Qatar. Airee, at just 24 years old and already seasoned with 60 T20Is and 55 ODIs, had previously demonstrated his big-hitting capabilities at the Asian Games in Hangzhou in September 2023, against Mongolia. There, he hammered six sixes off the first six legal balls he faced, spread across two consecutive overs. On that occasion, his quickfire 52 not out off ten balls helped Nepal to amass the first-ever 300-plus team total in T20I history and he set the record for the fastest T20I fifty, achieved in just nine balls. These feats highlight Airee’s standing as not only a powerful striker of the ball but also a game-changing player for Nepal.
