In IPL 2023, the bowling unit let down Chennai Super Kings. In batting first, they have produced enormous totals, but their bowlers haven’t quite been able to stifle the opposition’s batters. CSK had to fight till the very last ball to defeat Royal Challengers Bangalore on Monday by 8 runs despite scoring 227 against them. The major worry has been discipline and accuracy. Injuries to important bowlers like Deepak Chahar, Mukesh Choudhary, Sisanda Magala, Ben Stokes, and Simarjeet Singh have left their seam attack frail.
In this IPL, CSK bowlers have been found guilty of numerous wides and no-balls. They bowled six wides on Monday even against RCB. The CSK bowlers’ extras have become such a problem that the team’s captain, MS Dhoni, one of the most composed cricketers in the game, was forced to deliver a warning. “They won’t have to bowl as many wides or no-balls. We need to stop bowling so many extra deliveries or else they’ll be playing with a new skipper “After defeating LSG earlier this month, Dhoni had said.
In so much time, CSK had bowled 13 wides. Although the number has decreased, it has not yet dropped to a reasonable level. According to former India opener Virender Sehwag, if this keeps up, Dhoni, the skipper of CSK, would soon be suspended for committing slow over-rate offences repeatedly.
Dhoni was not looking happy because he has already stated that he wants the bowlers to throw fewer wides and no-balls. CSK had already bowled two to three additional years, and they did so again against RCB. It shouldn’t progress to the point where Dhoni is suspended and CSK must play without their captain.
It seems he might only play a few more games given the type of knee ailment he has. Although he is always pushing himself, Dhoni will need to take a break if his bowlers continue to bowl so many wides and no-balls, Sehwag stated on Cricbuzz.
Sehwag was more upset with spinner Maheesh Theekshana than with Tushar Deshpande, who has been responsible for the most extras for CSK in this year’s IPL.
According to Virender Sehwag, MS Dhoni, the captain of CSK, would be suspended for repeat slow over-rate offences if this keeps up.
Sehwag called CSK’s bowling attack “poor” and warned that if the four-time champions don’t swiftly address this issue, the rest of the competition will be difficult for them.
