Sunil Narine Refuses To Attend KKR's IPL Batsmen's Meeting, Know Why

After enjoying success as an opening batsman for Kolkata Knight Riders, Sunil Narine revealed that his approach is to keep things simple. His light-hearted comments came in response to Shreyas Iyer’s revelation that the mysterious West Indies spinner was absent from the batting session on Wednesday. Narine’s return as an opener this season has helped the Knight Riders get off to a strong start in IPL 2024.

Sunil Narine has won the Man of the Match award 14 times in the IPL. This time, his blistering innings helped KKR to the second-highest total of 272 in the history of the tournament. Narine hit seven sixes and seven boundaries en route to his best of 85 from 39 balls. He seemed to have good control of the bat and unnerved the Delhi bowlers.

Narine attacked the fast bowlers hard and even smashed Ishant Sharma’s bouncer six times. He also dominated DC’s lone spinner Axar Patel, who bowled just once in Vizag on Wednesday. Narine’s attack was beyond brutal as he targeted the bowlers and timed his big throws perfectly.

“Cricket is all about batting, so I want to contribute more as a batsman. But I still love to bowl,” commented Narine.

“I know my role. The less I know, the better for me,” said Narine, hinting at his refusal to participate in batting matches.

Sunils’s Rise In IPL 2024

Narine’s batting skills have declined in the last three seasons and he failed to reach 100 in any edition. However, he has been a sensational opening batsman this year and KKR’s faith in him is justified. Former captain Gautam Gambhir, who initially used Narine as an opener, is now the team’s coach and the ‘Gambir effect’ is visible.

Earlier, Narine scored 45 while KKR scored 182 in 17 overs against RCB in Bengaluru. In his 17th season in the tournament, he scored 134 runs in three games at an impressive strike rate of 204.
